So it's a Mergeots Peunz P4wagen? Or it's a proper MB G-wagen?

All that hardware on the back is hand-cranked. As is the front winch.

Maybe less. I can't say I asked, and in all likelihood it hasn't lifted anything in a minimum of 30 years.

Are we actually sure that second axle's not a bogey? Because I have to say, I have no idea other than a swap of the hubs off a One Ton to some type of heavier axle casings with pass-thru and full custom axle shafts that this could even work.

could be the case that it's a bogey, just need to support the weight of full water tanks. I t doesn't go over rough terrain.

Don't get me wrong, it could be done, but it'd be a major effort, and the results would be likely to disappoint. You'd have to swap the center diff to one with a rearward bias, redo the axle setup like I described, and so on - with some aspects being quite a pill.

I've done some research it appears it is a Carmichael TACR2 originally used by the RAF and Royal Navy as rapid response vehicles. Originally available in a 6x4 configuration and some have been converted to 6x6 but I have no concrete info on the one at Shoreham airport near me.

Knowing that Carmichael was behind it, that makes it more interesting. I've seen pics of Carmichael conversions for the Series, and they seemingly never blanched at making their own parts and/or mix and matching for best effect. Very likely something like a pair of One Ton axles reworked, a Defender transfer swap, and a dual output box on the trans or an axle passthru then, for the 6x6.

the original TACR was series based but I guess they made the TACR2 from a Range Rover because the RAF wanted to ride in more style? based on anectodal bits on the intertubes someone with a Carmichael 6x6 describes it as a axle pass thru.
